Sixers Statement on Coaching Staff

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – AUGUST 16, 2013 – The following is a statement from Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Brett Brown on making the decision that Michael Curry, Aaron McKie and Jeff Capel will not be part of the 76ers coaching staff next season.

“This decision takes nothing away from the talent and loyalty of Michael Curry, Aaron McKie and Jeff Capel, but is more about making a fresh start here in Philadelphia,” said Brown. “I respect the way this staff did their job and how they handled themselves with tremendous class and professionalism, which needs to be acknowledged. I am grateful for all the work they've done this off-season leading up to this decision.”

Philadelphia 76ers introduce first-round pick Nerlens Noel

The Philadelphia 76ers officially introduced Nerlens Noel, acquired in the draft-day trade that sent All-Star Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans, Tuesday afternoon at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Noel was joined on-stage by Sixers GM Sam Hinkie. A head coach was noticeably absent. Before addressing the addition of the 6-foot-11 center from the University of Kentucky, Hinkie discussed the departure of all-star point guard Jrue Holiday.

"To lose [Jrue] is not easy,” he began. “We wish him nothing but the best in New Orleans, and for the rest of his career.”

"With that being said, we're very excited,” Hinkie continued. “To acquire Nerlens and the [2014 lottery] pick that came with him, we think is a very big step for us."

Noel, who will miss substantial time this season recovering from an ACL injury sustained last season, said his weight is down to about 219 pounds, but assured fans that he has been rehabbing hard. "I'm doing six hours of rehab a day. I'm making a lot of progress," he stated.

James Anderson and Center Tim Ohlbrecht

The Sixers have claimed swingman James Anderson and center Tim Ohlbrecht off of waivers from Houston.

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – JULY 16, 2013 – The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that they have claimed swingman James Anderson and center Tim Ohlbrecht off waivers.  Both players were waived by Houston on July 15.

Anderson (6-6, 215) was originally the 20th overall pick by San Antonio in the 2010 NBA Draft.  In three NBA seasons with the Spurs and Rockets, Anderson has appeared in 116 games with six starts, averaging 3.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 11.1 minutes per game.

This past season, Anderson was a member of Atlanta’s training camp and preseason roster before being waived prior to the start of the regular season.  After a brief stint with the Rio Grande Vipers in the D-League, Anderson signed with the Spurs on Nov. 21 and appeared in 10 games before being waived on Dec. 20.  The 24-year-old returned to the Vipers before being signed by the Rockets for the remainder of the season on Jan. 2.
